I admit it! I am one of those lamenting the future of our youth, wondering what good could possible come of a world so immersed in the dysfunction of reality television. I watch these shows and see the classless behavior over and over. Fighting, cussing, showing no respect for themselves or anyone else -i t's enough to make the strongest person shudder. The world seems to be spinning out of control and dragging our children with it. Then along comes this young man. Mason is an eagle scout and if you don't know what that means, here is the definition in Wikipedia:
"Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The designation "Eagle Scout" was founded over one hundred years ago. Only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted this rank after a lengthy review process."
It is difficult to become an Eagle Scout. It denotes hard work and determination, two traits I fear may be sorely lacking in today's world. But this kid, Mason, he gives me hope. By the way, he has a brother. His brother will be granted the title of Eagle Scout soon. Two young men, fearless and strong (and very funny) ready to take on the world! Smile America! It's not over yet!
